A former senior sales supervisor of Centaline Property Agency has been charged on Monday with accepting an illegal commission of over HK$1.2 million from a then downline estate agent.

Chan Yu-fat, 68, faces one count of agent accepting an advantage and will appear at the Eastern Magistrates' Courts on Wednesday for transfer of the case to the District Court for plea, the Independent Commission Against Corruption said.

In December 2015, Chan and a downline estate agent procured the transaction of a residential property in Conduit Road at a consideration of over HK$590 million.

The charge alleges that on or about June 17 in 2016, the defendant, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, accepted an advantage, namely a sum of over HK$1.2 million, from the downline estate agent as a reward for involving the latter in providing estate agency services to the purchaser of the residential property, according to the anti-graft agency.

Chan has been released on ICAC bail pending his court appearance.
