A senior foreign policy adviser from China is expected to visit South Korea this month to discuss issues of mutual concern, including North Korea's nuclear problem, a diplomatic source said today.

A discussion is under way to arrange State Councilor Yang Jiechi's visit, the source said, adding it could take place after the closing of the National People's Congress on March 20.

During his stay, Yang will likely meet high-ranking South Korean officials, including Chung Eui Yong, head of the National Security Office, and Foreign Minister Kang Kyung Wha, the sate news agency Yonhap reports.

Yang, a former Chinese foreign minister, is also expected to discuss bilateral relations strained over the deployment of a U.S. anti-missile system called THAAD in South Korea.
