Women's Day demo demands child care cash

Local | 8 Mar 2018 3:05 pm

About 20 protesters from the Neighbourhood and Worker's Service Centre rallied outside the government headquarters today to mark the International Women's Day.

They called on the government to increase funding for child care services and adopt more family friendly policies to encourage more women to work.

Gladys Lam, the community organizer of the group, says the Community Care Fund should also provide allowance for grassroots housewives who need to take care of their children.

She said there is money for elderly carers and disabled carers in the fund, but nothing like that for carers of children.

But Lam said such aid would only a short-term solution. She said government also need to formulate long term measures to help women like family friendly policies and adequate child care centers.-RTHK
