As of 8:00 a.m. today 10 people have been confirmed dead in the magnitude 6 earthquake, which recorded the highest intensity level of 7 in downtown Hualien.
They include seven in the Yun Men Tsui Ti building: four Chinese nationals and a Taiwanese citizen staying in Beauty Inn; a Taiwanese worker at the hotel; and a Philippine caregiver working for a Japanese family living on the 7th floor.
Also deceased were a Taiwanese worker at Marshal Hotel and two local residents.
A total of 276 people, meanwhile, were injured in the earthquake.
