Renowned Hong Kong culture scholar Jao Tsung-I passed away today at the age of 101.
Born in 1917, Jao was a respected figure in the humanities field, including archaeology, literature and history, Xinhua reports.
Born to a scholarly family in Chaoan, Guangdong, Professor Jao came to Hong Kong in 1949 and taught at both the Chinese University and the University of Hong Kong, before travelling and lecturing in other countries.
A versatile scholar, he contributed to almost every field of humanities, including archaeology, literature, philology, musicology and history, RTHK reports.
He was awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal in 2000, and is survived by two daughters.-Photo: RTHK
