Court rules ousted lawmakers have case to answer over Legco gate-crash

A Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts judge has today ruled that disqualified Youngspiration lawmakers Yau Wai-ching, Sixtus "Baggio" Leung Chung-hang and three of their former assistants, who allegedly gate-crashed a Legislative Council meeting in 2016, have a case to answer.

They each face a count of taking part in an unlawful assembly and also an alternative charge of attempted forcible entry.

The case was adjourned until Thursday.

In November 2016, Yau and Leung were disqualified from being lawmakers after the High Court ruled that the pair had "declined” to take their oaths of office in Legco "faithfully and truthfully'' on October 12 the same year.

The Court of Final Appeal in August last year dismissed a bid by the pair to appeal over their disqualifications as lawmakers.
